Forget Job-Hopping: Americans Are Now “Job Hugging”

A new workplace trend is reshaping how Americans think about their careers. Instead of chasing better pay or new titles, many workers are choosing stability in what’s being called “job hugging.” According to a Resume Builder survey of more than 2,200 employees, 45% said they are staying put due to economic uncertainty, with 95% citing a weak job market as their top concern. Fears of artificial intelligence making it harder to land future jobs and anxieties over layoffs are also driving workers to hold on tightly to their current positions—even if it means longer hours, heavier workloads, or going the extra mile to stay in management’s good graces. For now, security is winning out over ambition.
