Mega Millions Madness: Jackpot Nears $1 Billion

On the Brink of a Billion

The Mega Millions jackpot is closing in on a staggering $1 billion after no ticket matched all six numbers in Tuesday’s drawing. The next drawing, set for Friday, November 14, carries an estimated top prize of $965 million — marking only the eighth time in the game’s history that the jackpot has reached such heights.

The Winning Numbers

Tuesday night’s numbers were 10, 13, 40, 42, 46, with the gold Mega Ball 1. Although no one hit the jackpot, there were still 809,030 winning tickets across various prize tiers, totaling more than $27.9 million in winnings nationwide. The jackpot was last won on June 27 in Virginia, and this Friday’s draw marks the 40th in the current run, setting a new record for consecutive drawings without a winner.

Big Dreams, Long Odds

The odds of claiming the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350, but that hasn’t stopped hopeful players from lining up for a chance at life-changing wealth. The prize’s cash option is valued at $445.3 million, which can be taken as a lump sum or spread out over 29 annual payments. Mega Millions is played in 45 states, plus Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands, with tickets priced at $5 per play.

History in the Making

The largest Mega Millions jackpot ever recorded — $1.6 billion — was won on August 8, 2023. With the current prize inching closer to that record, millions of Americans are dreaming of striking it rich before the weekend.
