Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet with President Donald Trump in Washington on Monday, just days after Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin wrapped up a summit in Alaska that failed to secure a halt to the fighting. In a sharp turn, Trump announced that a full peace agreement — not a temporary ceasefire — should be the goal of negotiations, echoing the stance long held by Moscow. European leaders, who spoke with Trump and Zelenskyy following the summit, welcomed U.S. efforts to push for peace but did not weigh in on whether a lasting deal should replace an immediate ceasefire.
