28 Minnesota Lawmakers Named Legislators of Distinction — Here’s the Full List

The League of Minnesota Cities has announced its list of 2025 Legislators of Distinction, honoring 28 state lawmakers — 16 representatives and 12 senators — for their work to strengthen the partnership between state and local governments. Among the honorees is Senator John Jasinski (R–Faribault), recognized for his continued commitment to advocating for city priorities and ensuring local voices are heard at the State Capitol.

Each year, the League’s Board of Directors selects legislators who have gone above and beyond to support Minnesota’s cities during the legislative session. The recognition is based on specific actions such as being accessible to city officials, seeking input on issues of local importance, sponsoring or supporting League initiatives, and demonstrating the value of cooperation between state and municipal leaders.

Senator Jasinski, who represents District 19, said the honor reflects the lessons he learned long before serving in the Legislature.

“Honored to be named a Legislator of Distinction by the League of Minnesota Cities! My years as a mayor and city councilor taught me how important it is for state and local leaders to work together. That experience still guides me every day in the Senate!” Jasinski shared on his Facebook page.

The League emphasizes that this award is not just ceremonial — it reflects meaningful contributions that have directly benefited communities across Minnesota. Legislators of Distinction demonstrate an understanding of the challenges cities face, from infrastructure needs to public safety, and work collaboratively to craft solutions that respect local control while addressing statewide priorities.

The League of Minnesota Cities is a membership organization that represents more than 830 cities across the state, providing advocacy, education, training, policy development, and risk management services. Founded in 1913 and operating as an independent entity since 1974, the League works to ensure that cities have the tools, resources, and autonomy needed to address the unique needs of their communities.

With 856 cities in Minnesota — most with populations under 1,000 — the League sees its role as a crucial bridge between local governments and state policymakers. Its philosophy is rooted in the principle of local control, supporting elected officials and residents in making decisions that fit their own communities.

The Legislators of Distinction award program underscores that philosophy, celebrating those lawmakers who not only listen to the concerns of city leaders but actively seek ways to address them through legislation and advocacy. By honoring lawmakers from both major parties, the League highlights that cooperation and partnership across political lines are essential to effective governance.

In recognizing Senator Jasinski and his fellow honorees, the League reaffirmed its vision for Minnesota: thriving cities that are well-equipped to meet challenges, seize opportunities, and serve residents effectively. For Jasinski, the recognition serves as both a career milestone and a reminder of the community-focused values that continue to guide his work.
