A Final Salute for a Vietnam Veteran

A Veteran Honored—Never Forgotten

In Indiana, a Vietnam veteran who had no known family will still receive the honor and dignity he earned—thanks to a community that refused to let him be forgotten.

No Family, But Not Alone

When the Warrick County Coroner’s Office shared that Junior Lee Wilkins had passed away with no one to claim him, efforts were made to locate relatives. Despite those attempts, no family members were found.

But his story didn’t end there.

A Community Steps In

With the help of Koehler Funeral Home, arrangements were made to ensure Wilkins would receive a proper burial. He has been approved for interment at New Albany National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with full military funeral honors.

A Final Salute of Respect

Wilkins, who served during the Vietnam War, will be honored on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. EST. Though no family will be present, the ceremony ensures that his service—and his sacrifice—are recognized.

Military honors are reserved for those who served their country, a final salute that reflects gratitude and respect.

Why It Matters

This moment carries a powerful message: no veteran should be forgotten.

Even without family, Wilkins will be remembered—not just for how he passed, but for how he served.

Because in the end, honoring those who wore the uniform is not just a duty—it’s a promise.
