Remember This: When the Public Smells Hypocrisy, You’re Already Toast

It says here that once anyone, or any institution, is judged guilty of being lying hypocrites by the American public, they are dead men walking.  It matters not which side of the political equation is involved.

Reminder.  I am an old man.  The first President I was privileged to serve under was Richard Nixon.  Those of us youngsters who had gravitated from being long haired, whoopy doo, drug sucking dopes into citizens prioritizing America and what it must stand for, knew for a fact that Richard Nixon in the White House was a far choice than anything being offered by liberal Democrats.

Look at the record.  Not exactly little stuff.  Keeping an aggressive Soviet Union in line, while opening up relations with China.  Achieving a negotiated peace in Viet Nam.  An economy performing well.  How could something as unimportant as the Watergate Affair bring down this man?

Like most things, the answer was right before our eyes.  The fact base is actually very simple.  The campaign operatives went to Campaign Chairman, John Mitchell (who had served in the same job in 1968, and was Attorney General between stints).  They informed that with a green light, they would invade the Watergate Hotel, despite lacking a legal warrant.  The “cover” would be they were in pursuit of national security breaches, not political secrets.

I could spend two days on this, but the bottom line was the Nixon argument failed.  It smelled more like an attempt for political gain than anything focused on national security.  It was seen as a rejection of important values.  Using the law for raw, blatant political gain in the eyes of the voters was a death sentence.  Having an FBI Director toss files into the Potomac River did not help the cause.  It made them, in the minds of the public, a bunch of lying, hypocrites.  Full disclosure, I was with Nixon to the end.

So, where are we today?  Every day the legacy media persists in substituting its world view for the practice of actual journalism, they increasingly hang themselves with their own rope.

Truth telling?  Doesn’t that start with reporting facts as measured by accuracy, timeliness, and importance?  Doesn’t fighting for free speech start with fighting for free speech?  When it comes to platforming, where do you start?  Silencing the views of those with whom you disagree, or respectfully and humbly considering the remote possibility when your views, attitude, and approach are being massively rejected, you might have it wrong?  Isn’t respecting the will of public what all this saving democracy should be about?

Other than rabid progressives, who can refrain from laughing, and say they got the straight scoop on Biden’s cognitive abilities, COVID, the border, and almost anything else?  Claiming to be straightforward, they were anything but.  It is a bad joke.

Boom.  We get to today.  A violent illegal immigrant (including wife abuse), Abrega Garcia, is removed to his country of origin.  How do the media describe this charmer?  “A Maryland Man.”  The authority of the Trump Administration to remove him is under criticism for not respecting due process (which I do) on a debatable point of process.  This from the people who had no trouble torturing logic, fact, and law to prosecute President Trump.  Oh yes, be sure to give no coverage to the Mother of a daughter raped and killed by an illegal immigrant.  Outside the bubble, Americans think to themselves, this is nuts.

Kill somebody in cold blood, because you hate the current health care insurance industry?  No problem, if you are Luigi Magione?  After all, you are a sexy, “moral” person.  What’s not to like?  This sickness is their coverage.  Have to “understand both sides.”  Unless, of course, the other side involves President Trump and his supporters.

Of course, you could knife an unarmed student to death and claim self-defense, if you are Karmelo Anthony.  No chance he is a bad guy.  Never miss a chance to try to inject identity politics, no matter the facts.

The end phase is obvious.  Americans have too many other options for information than the mainstream media.  The legacy linear media are guilty of twisting information to suit a specific and identifiable partisan political narrative.  Just like Richard Nixon, the public has made its verdict.  Smug self-righteousness only serves to quicken their demise.

Remember This:  In a democracy, moral authority is required.  Lose it, and you are toast.  What do you think?
