Surprising New Baby Name Rankings for 2024: Find Out Which Name is Dominating the Charts!

Once again, Olivia and Liam claim the crown as the most popular baby names in the United States, according to the latest data from the Social Security Administration (SSA), marking the fifth consecutive year Liam has held the top spot for boys. For girls, Olivia has unseated Emma, securing the title for the third year in a row.
The SSA tracks baby name popularity based on applications for Social Security cards, with data dating back to 1880. The rankings provide insight into shifting cultural and demographic trends, showing how certain names rise and fall in favor over time.
For 2024, the top male names following Liam are Noah, Oliver, Elijah, James, William, Benjamin, Lucas, Henry, and the newcomer Theodore, which makes its debut in the top 10 list. On the female side, Olivia leads the way, followed by Emma, Charlotte, Amelia, Ava, Sophia, Isabella, Mia, Evelyn, and Harper.
Among the “fastest rising” names are Amiri for boys and Raya for girls, signaling growing interest in these distinctive names. Meanwhile, names such as Jaxtyn, Karsyn, and Xzavier are seeing a decline in popularity for boys. The name Denise has also dropped in use for girls from 2020 to 2021, with various spellings of the name experiencing a similar trend.
The latest report from the SSA reveals a slight uptick in births, with 3.64 million babies born in 2021, a small increase from 3.6 million the previous year. However, this still represents a general decline in the nation’s birthrate in recent years.
As parents continue to choose names for their newborns, these trends provide a fascinating snapshot of societal preferences and the ever-evolving landscape of baby names in America.
