The University of Minnesota recently concluded its annual Farm Family Recognition Program, honoring farm families from across the state for their outstanding contributions to agriculture and their local communities. The event took place at Farmfest in Redwood County, from August 5-7, 2025.

Among the honorees was the Hoen Family from Carver County, representing Senate District 22. Senator Julia Coleman congratulated the Hoen Family, as well as all other farm families across Minnesota, for their unwavering dedication to farming and their vital role in supporting local communities.

“Congratulations to the Hoen Family and all the outstanding farm families across our state,” Senator Coleman said. “The dedication, hard work, and skill it takes to operate a farm at such a high level is unmatched. Thank you to all our farming families for everything you do for your local communities and for Minnesota as a whole.”

Since its inception in 1979, the University of Minnesota’s Farm Family Recognition Program has celebrated the perseverance and hard work of Minnesota’s farmers. Coordinated by University of Minnesota Extension, the College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences, and the College of Veterinary Medicine, the program recognizes farm families who make significant contributions to agriculture and their communities.

Farmfest provides an important opportunity for farmers to network, exchange ideas, and explore the latest innovations in agriculture. This year, attendees gathered to celebrate what they grow and who they grow it with, furthering the spirit of community and collaboration that defines Minnesota’s farming industry.

The Hoen Family, along with other recognized farm families, exemplifies the values of the agricultural community and serves as a reminder of the essential role farmers play in shaping Minnesota’s economy and local communities.
