Are Republicans Losing Their Edge on Inflation?

In this week’s Winston Group analysis, David Winston highlights troubling signs for Republicans on their signature issue: inflation. Despite new federal data showing mixed trends—producer prices down but consumer prices up—voters still feel the pinch, with more than half saying inflation is getting worse. Last fall, inflation helped deliver Republican victories, but recent surveys show the party’s advantage on handling the economy has eroded from double digits to just +1 overall and even flipped to a -3 deficit on inflation specifically. Meanwhile, Democrats see an opening, with House Leader Hakeem Jeffries warning his party not to repeat past mistakes. Winston cautions that Republicans risk losing their strongest issue if they fail to sharpen their message and stay in tune with voter concerns.
