Why Republicans Still Need to Close the Deal on the Big Beautiful Bill

David Winston, president of The Winston Group, argues in his latest Roll Call column that Republicans face an uphill battle in convincing voters of the benefits of the Big Beautiful Bill Act. Despite extending the 2017 individual tax cuts — which prevented nearly every taxpayer from seeing an increase — voter perception remains skeptical. Winston points to new Winston Group survey numbers showing that only one-third of Americans believe the BBB stopped their taxes from going up, while many still view it as a boon for the wealthy. He stresses that Republicans won’t win this debate through rhetoric alone, but by using clear data, such as Congressional Budget Office projections, to show families what they would have paid without the extension. The challenge, he writes, is simple: move past political messaging and prove the math.
