Excusitis: The Silent Disease Holding You Back

Excuses are easy. Growth is not. In this powerful and direct piece, Rosemary Bonner, CEO of RB Coaching, introduces “Excusitis”—the quiet habit that keeps people from reaching their potential—and explains how personal responsibility, discipline, and action are the real antidotes.

There is a condition quietly infecting people of all ages, backgrounds, and professions. It doesn’t
show up on bloodwork. You won’t find it in a medical textbook. But its effects are devastating to
growth, confidence, health, and success.

I call it Excusitis.

Excusitis is the habit of explaining away responsibility instead of owning results. It sounds
reasonable. It feels justified. And it keeps people stuck exactly where they are.

At RB Coaching, we do not accept excuses. Not because we lack compassion—but because
excuses rob people of their power. All levels of success have strict boundaries, and excuses are
not granted entry.

Let’s talk about the four most common forms of Excusitis I see every day.

Health Excusitis

“I’ll start when I feel better.”
“I’m too tired.”
“My body just doesn’t cooperate.”

Health Excusitis convinces people that their current condition disqualifies them from improving
it. The truth? Movement creates energy. Consistency improves health. Waiting until everything
feels perfect is a guaranteed way to stay unwell. At RB Coaching, we teach people to work with
their bodies, not surrender to them.

Intelligence Excusitis

“I’m not smart enough.”
“I don’t understand this stuff.”
“I was never good at that.”

This form of Excusitis is especially dangerous because it attacks identity. Intelligence is not fixed
—it’s built. Every skill you admire in someone else was once learned through repetition, failure,
and effort. Growth does not require genius; it requires commitment.

Age Excusitis

“I’m too old to start.”
“I’m too young to be taken seriously.”
“That ship has sailed.”

Age is one of the most common scapegoats—and one of the weakest. I’ve coached people who
transformed their bodies, careers, and confidence in their 20s, 40s, 60s, and beyond. Time will
pass whether you act or not. The question is whether you’ll grow while it does.

Luck Excusitis

“They’re just lucky.”
“Good things don’t happen to people like me.”
“I never get the breaks.”

Luck Excusitis removes responsibility entirely. What people call luck is often preparation
meeting opportunity. Discipline creates momentum. Momentum creates opportunity. At RB
Coaching, we focus on habits that manufacture results—no wishful thinking required.

The RB Coaching Standard

Excuses may explain why you haven’t started, but they will never build the life you want.

At RB Coaching, we operate with a clear standard: mental toughness, physical discipline, and
personal responsibility. We help men and women break free from self-limiting narratives and
step into strength—inside and out.

If you’re ready to leave Excusitis behind and commit to real, lasting change, I invite you to join
me.

Embark on a journey of mental and physical wellness through self-development—with RB
Coaching as your foundation.

Because the life you want does not respond to excuses. It responds to action.

At Think American News, we believe progress starts with ownership. Rosemary Bonner’s message is a reminder that lasting change doesn’t come from waiting on perfect conditions—it comes from choosing action, even when it’s uncomfortable.
