Sen. Bryan Hughes has officially ruled out a run for Texas attorney general, choosing instead to remain focused on his work in the state Senate. The AG seat opened after Ken Paxton announced a 2026 primary challenge against U.S. Sen. John Cornyn. While Hughes said he was honored by the encouragement to run, he stated that “this is not the right time.” The GOP field for AG now includes Sen. Mayes Middleton and former Trump DOJ official Aaron Reitz. No Democratic candidates have yet declared in either race.
