Skip the Crowds This Spring Break

Spring break 2026 peaks March 16–22, when Cancun, South Padre, and Miami tip from lively to unlivable. But if warm weather without surge pricing and wall-to-wall crowds is the goal, there are smart alternatives the spring-break machine tends to ignore. These spots deliver sunshine, culture, and breathing room—no wristbands required.

Portugal
March sits between winter quiet and summer chaos. Expect mild temps, walkable streets, and hotel rates far below peak season. The Algarve’s cliff trails and Lisbon’s neighborhoods shine without tour-bus traffic.

Oaxaca, Mexico
High elevation keeps March warm but comfortable. Ancient ruins, mezcal distilleries, and serious food culture replace beach-party noise—perfect for travelers who want Mexico without the mayhem.

Savannah, Georgia
Warm days, blooming azaleas, and classic Southern charm. Just avoid St. Patrick’s Day week, when the city flips the switch to party mode and prices spike.

Cartagena, Colombia
Beach weather meets colonial history. March lands at the dry season’s end with shoulder-season pricing, easy walkability inside the walled city, and quick access to nearby islands.

Belize
Peak season that still feels uncrowded. Skip the cayes for inland jungle lodges near San Ignacio, where caves and Mayan sites deliver adventure without competition.

Gulf Shores, Alabama
White sand, honest seafood, and fewer college crowds than Florida’s hotspots. March is warm enough for the beach and cool enough for hiking Gulf State Park.

The Timing Trick
Travel March 9–15 or March 23–29 to cut crowds further. For maximum value, the week after Easter is the quiet reset when rates fall fast.
