Former Panthers Star Reconnects With Teen He Met During Heart Transplant Battle

A Reunion Years in the Making
A powerful moment unfolded at Lambeau Field when 14-year-old Bryson Shupe reunited with former Carolina Panthers star Greg Olsen — a connection forged years earlier during one of the most challenging chapters of both their lives. As a child, Bryson was a heart-transplant patient at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte. At the same time, Olsen’s young son was waiting for his own lifesaving transplant. Their shared medical journey brought them together and sparked Bryson’s lifelong love for the Panthers.
A Game Day Surprise
Now a healthy teenager, Bryson received the ultimate surprise: a trip to Green Bay to watch his Panthers take on the Packers. Not only did he attend the Nov. 2 matchup — he experienced it like a VIP. Bryson joined the team on the field for pregame warmups, met several players, and took in the electric atmosphere at historic Lambeau Field.
The highlight came when he headed up to the broadcast booth, where Olsen greeted him with a huge hug and unmistakable excitement. “How’s this for a day?” Olsen said, reflecting the joy of seeing Bryson thriving eight years later. Photos shared by Levine Children’s show Bryson proudly wearing his custom No. 1 jersey, smiling beside Olsen, posing with Panthers quarterback Bryce Young, and soaking in every moment.
A Message of Strength and Hope
Levine Children’s called it “the perfect game day for the sweetest kid,” celebrating how far Bryson has come. His story is not only about survival, but about resilience, gratitude, and the power of unexpected bonds. When asked what advice he would share with other kids facing hard times, Bryson offered simple but powerful words: “Keep pounding. Keep your head up. Don’t be sad at all.”
