Trademark Tussle: Baylor Takes Boston University to Court Over Logo

Baylor University has filed a lawsuit against Boston University in Texas federal court, alleging trademark infringement over Boston’s use of an interlocking “BU” logo that Baylor claims is “identical or strikingly similar” to its federally registered design. While a 1988 settlement allowed both schools to use the letters “BU,” Baylor argues Boston violated the agreement by using the interlocking version on merchandise and club sports materials, despite being notified in 2021. The suit seeks to force Boston to destroy all materials bearing the disputed logo and to award Baylor damages, costs, and other financial relief.
