Kansas Senator J.R. Claeys has officially stepped down from the 24th District Senate seat after accepting a position with the Trump administration. Claeys will now lead the USDA’s Rural Business Service, which supports economic growth and development in rural communities. His departure has prompted GOP leaders in Saline and Dickinson counties to begin the search for his replacement. Among the names floated: former Saline County Treasurer Jim Dubois and current State Rep. Scott Hill of Abilene. A date for the replacement selection has not yet been set.
