“Women Win”: J.K. Rowling Cheers Landmark UK Ruling That Trans Women Aren’t Legally Female

J.K. Rowling celebrated a UK Supreme Court ruling that defines “woman” and “sex” in the Equality Act as biological, not self-identified. The case, brought by For Women Scotland, argued that allowing transgender women to count toward gender-based representation diluted protections for biological women. While the court upheld protections for those undergoing gender reassignment, it clarified that legal definitions in public policy must reflect biological sex. Rowling praised the decision as a win for women’s rights.
