Louisiana Power Duo Honored for Fighting for Main Street—Here’s Why Small Business Owners Are Cheering

Two Louisiana lawmakers are being recognized for their commitment to the state’s small business community. Senate President Cameron Henry and Representative Michael Echols have each received the NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award, the highest honor given by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading advocate for small business.
The award highlights elected officials who go above and beyond in their efforts to support job creators and strengthen the backbone of local economies. In this case, both Henry and Echols were selected by NFIB’s Louisiana Leadership Council, which is made up of small business owners from across the state.
“Small businesses are the backbone of Louisiana’s economy,” said Leah Long, NFIB State Director, “and we’re proud to recognize these two leaders for their strong support. Senator Henry and Representative Echols understand the challenges facing small business owners, and they have consistently worked to make Louisiana a better place to own and operate a business.”

Senator Cameron Henry, who represents Senate District 9, has built a legislative career on common-sense conservative principles and a strong commitment to economic growth. A former House member with 12 years of experience, Henry has played a pivotal role in shaping legislation around tax and insurance reform—two issues that directly impact small business owners across Louisiana.
Representative Michael Echols, who serves House District 14, brings real-world business acumen to the State Capitol. First elected in 2019, Echols has focused much of his legislative energy on reforming workers’ compensation, improving the state’s insurance climate, and boosting workforce development—all areas that directly affect the ability of small businesses to grow and hire. He currently serves on the House Labor and Industrial Relations Committee, where his efforts have earned him praise from business leaders statewide.

Both lawmakers have demonstrated a consistent focus on policies that benefit Main Street businesses, especially as many continue to recover from the challenges of recent years.
NFIB noted that it looks forward to working with both leaders during the ongoing legislative session, as small businesses continue to seek relief from regulatory burdens and advocate for a more competitive economic environment.
The recognition of Senator Henry and Representative Echols underscores a growing focus in state legislatures nationwide on policies that support entrepreneurship and protect the viability of locally owned businesses. As other states look to enhance their business climate, Louisiana’s leadership on these issues is earning bipartisan praise.
