Media Lies, Biden Denials, and the Great Gaslight: How the Left Is Rewriting History in Real Time

For the purposes of this column, we are stipulating that the legacy media and progressive politicians are virtually one and the same. Separately and together, they are engaged in a massive attempt to rewrite history, so they can credibly advance their current agenda. Americans need to scream, “hell no.” Otherwise, they will continue in their cynical efforts to reshape our Republic in their own image. If the stakes were not so high, the temptation would be to laugh in their faces.
There has been a ton of chatter about who knew when Joe Biden’s brain was jelly and what did they do about it. Three lines of argument have emerged. First, we have “in retrospect, we should have not blindly accepted what the White House told us.” This is the favorite of the legacy media. As though they had no responsibility to actually practice some real journalism in real time. Jake Tapper is the leading character in this group. On the political side, there are plenty of feigned shows of regret for not being tougher on the White House. Little remorse with lots of excuses that boil down to “but Trump.”
Second, is “it was not until the debate that we saw any signs of him not having his wits about him.” This is how you rationalize trashing the Wall Street Journal story reporting of the decline in the spring of 2024 without feeling too bad about yourselves. Never mind impugning the motives and character of those who accurately reported things. The same can be said for how the media addressed the Hur report on how Biden handled classified materials. Hur let Biden down gently by describing him as a well-intentioned elderly man with a bad memory. At the time, the legacy media and their partners in the Democratic Party both were aghast at what Hur had to say. Now, it is a big oops.
Third, we have my favorite. This is the “never saw any indication that President Biden was not in full command.” Former Obama White House staffer, Johanna Maska, gets at least the silver medal in this group. After announcing everyone knew Hunter Biden was a crook (suddenly “unfounded accusations” had a date with reality), she argues books such as the one Tapper co-authored are nothing more than kissing up to right-wing media. Competing for the gold medal, we have Bill Clinton calmly asserting he encountered only a with-it kind of guy in his interactions with Biden. We will leave aside the irony of Clinton discussing White House scandals, much less him being a dependable source of the truth. During his Presidency, more than one person observed that he lied sometimes just to stay in practice.
You have two schools that are fictional denials of having been anything but honest. The third school is simply delusional.
The problem for the country is that they are depending on not being held accountable for their persistent lies, and there is no other word for it. The legacy media wants to be treated as though they can be trusted. They cannot. Progressive politicians want you to believe they truly have the interests of the American public in mind. They do not. All those who refused to accept the fact that Joe Biden was unfit to serve in the name of keeping Donald Trump from being elected deserve only our disdain and disgust.
The pivot has already begun. Multiple members of the corporate media are using their shameful behavior concerning Biden as an excuse to question the cognitive abilities of President Trump. MSNBC’s Larry O’Donnell has already said the real issue is not how the worst scandal in the history of the White House could have happened. The real scandal is how there is so little attention paid to the decline of President Trump. Multiple media members have promised to cover this “story” with great attention.
Not to be outdone, the same politicians who first insisted Biden was just fine, then that he should be added to Mount Rushmore when he stepped down, now feel as though they have identified the real problem. Would it be that they consistently substituted their narrative for fact? Not a chance. Nope. Now, they can be trusted when it comes to the border and immigration, crime, and the economy to do what is right. Their last candidate for VP, Minnesota governor Tim Walz, has it all figured out. Progressives have just been too darn nice. Raise your hand if you think President Trump’s opponents have not been critical enough.
Common Sense: If we allow corporate legacy media and progressive politicians to rewrite history, we can only blame ourselves for what happens next. Americans need to make the honest version of The Resistance, the massive refusal to allow self-serving lies to dictate anything further.
