Bill Maher’s Message to Democrats: Talk Like Normal People—Americans Are Tuning Out the Crazy

Comedian Bill Maher recently offered Democrats some advice when it comes to talking to American men.  He urged them to effing talk normal.  This came after the Democratic National Committee (DNC) had announced a $20 million program to study just how to do that—speak to American men.  It had the feel of scientists studying a foreign species.  Of course, before you can talk normally, you have to think normally.  There seems to be scant chance of that happening anytime soon.

Let’s start with the whole transgender issue.  It is a statistical fact that the Democrats in Congress stand united in their opposition to what 80 percent of Americans say they want—to keep biological males out of women’s sports.  When the matter came before the House, two Democrats supported it.  That was two more than did so in the Senate.  What we hear is “it is an unimportant issue.”  As if that is an acceptable excuse for voting against what their constituents desire.

Last weekend, there was a parade in Washington, D.C. to celebrate the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army.  Democrats fell all over themselves arguing this was an attempt by President Trump to appear as something close to a dictator in waiting, since the date coincided with his birthday.  Small problem, the application for the parade was approved when Joe Biden was President.  Then, we heard about how small the attendance was for the event compared to the “mostly peaceful protests.”  Problem two.  The visuals of burning cars (a new form of fun according to the legacy media), compared to one where happy people gather together on the D.C. Mall, came across in a way that made those critical of the event appear to be tone deaf.  Bad battle to pick.  Happy Americans celebrating America and its military, versus burning things in anger.  I’ll take the over.  To put a cherry on the hate America cake, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) labeled America “one of the worst countries in the world.”

Then, we have the tragedy of the shootings of elected officials in Minnesota.  Within minutes of this awful event, former Vice-Presidential candidate and current governor Tim Walz declared it was a political shooting.  The clear inference being that since those shot were Democrats (on a long list of targets), this had to be a terrible product of MAGA nation in general and President Trump in specific.  Once again, a few problems.  The shooter, Vance Luther Boelter, is obviously crazy. That is not under debate.

However, before we make an attempt to make this a political partisan matter, remember when Steve Scalise was shot by a Bernie Sanders supporter for avowed political reasons, we were all told not to think of it as a political shooting, much less anything Democrats should own.  President Trump was the recipient of two assassination attempts.  The Democratic party line was pretty close to “he asked for it.”  Even more important, it turns out Mr. Boelter was appointed to a fairly serious advisory board by Walz’s predecessor and reappointed by Governor Walz.  In other words, what makes this nutcase operate is likely a problem deeper than assisting one party or the other.

Obviously, I am a Republican, an unapologetic supporter of President Trump.  If I thought there was a chance in a million Democrats would read this and conclude “we need to get our stuff together and stop the insanity,” I would keep my mouth shut.  However, while I now enjoy the pleasure of residing in New Bern, North Carolina, I still go up to D.C. about twice a month.  I can tell you first-hand that the echo chamber is real and alive.  Overwhelmingly, the chattering class remains stuck in its inside-the-beltway bubble.  There is zero stomach for modifying a single policy position other than in the more liberal, elitist direction.

Common Sense:  While Democrats are willing to go to political war over illegal immigration and fights over pronouns, what the American public is saying matches Maher’s advice.  Start acting normal.  I am not too worried about it actually occurring.
