New Hampshire Legislative Leaders Respond to Minnesota Tragedy, Prioritize Safety of Lawmakers

In the wake of the tragic events in Minnesota this past weekend, New Hampshire’s top legislative leaders are taking steps to ensure the safety of state lawmakers.

Senate President Sharon Carson and House Speaker Sherman Packard issued a joint release on Monday acknowledging the incident and outlining measures being taken in Concord.

“After the tragedy that happened in Minnesota this past weekend, we are taking the necessary precautions to keep New Hampshire lawmakers safe,” the statement read. “Our security team has been in contact with state and local law enforcement to ensure the safety of our legislators. Right now, security is our top priority as our elected officials are finishing up their session work and we will continue to work on keeping the General Court safe for everyone.”

While the release did not provide specifics on enhanced security measures, it emphasized that coordination with law enforcement is underway and that ensuring the safety of legislators remains a top concern as the session concludes.

The New Hampshire General Court continues its work amid renewed national conversations about public safety in statehouses and the importance of protecting elected officials.
