The Democratic primary for Mayor in New York City (NYC) is a done deal. A 33-year-old socialist democrat, who has repeatedly sided with a virulent anti-Semite, is the nominee. Zohran Mamdani stands poised to become the next Mayor after defeating scandal-plagued former Governor Andrew Cuomo.
For many years, I have listened to repeated claims that most Democrats are entirely reasonable people, that their most liberal-progressive wing is a loud but small minority within the larger party. It is time to label that claim for what it is, fiction. Especially in large urban cities, the progressives are doing far more than rattling the cages of some mythical centrist Democratic Party. They are in charge.
Take a look. In Chicago, Boston, and Los Angeles, the DEI quotas may have been reached. However, Brandon Johnson, Michelle Wu, and Karen Bass are typical progressives perfectly willing to substitute their visions for social justice over anything remotely resembling putting the safety and well-being of their constituents first. Name the topic. Crime, education, and business climate. Show me one, just one, statistic that you can argue demonstrates an improvement in anything of consequence.
This acceptance of lousy government in the name of standing up for the disenfranchised is perhaps what galls the rest of us so much. We ask ourselves, what possibly would lead someone to conclude any of these folks should hold office?
Not content to literally ruin so many of our great cities, we have two governors who have presided over nothing less than God awful outcomes. Both, by the way, harbor ambitions to become the next President. Gavin Newsom in California and J.B. Pritzker in Illinois both want to impose their view of things on the rest of us. No, thank you. As an aside, it is amusing that the No Oligarchy team would consider someone such as Pritzker, since he is a legitimate billionaire. This does not even include former Vice Presidential candidate, Minnesota Governor, Tim Walz, he of the fraudulent resume
Democrats are seeking a new path forward after getting waxed at every level in the 2024 elections. Who is it that Democrats think is the best face of the Party? According to recent polling data, that would be New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Outside the safety of the progressive echo chamber, sane people think she is a first-class whack job. Why do they think that? Because she is.
Do things get any more acceptable when we examine what our “centrist” Democrats in Congress are doing these days? Beyond showing a callousness that shocks by not being willing to stand and applaud a terminally ill child when President Trump recognized him in an address to Congress, they repeatedly prove the point of how progressives call the tune in the Democratic Party.
Example? We have the matter of not allowing biological males to compete against biological females. For certain, it is not the most important issue confronting the nation. Plus, 80 percent of Americans agree they should not. Within the “we have to protect democracy” group, this should be a no-brainer, right? Not so much. When this came to a vote, two Democrats in the House voted for it. That is two more than in the Senate. This is not the stuff of being centrist.
The same can be said when it comes to crime, immigration, or education. Please indicate where the progressive wing is not calling the shots. The same voices who claim every Republican cowers in the corner in fear of upsetting President Trump are the ones who bow down to the most extreme elements of their Party.
Remember this: In the actual world we live in, there is plenty of proof that a progressive Democrat led government does not work, but also that these folks dominate within the Party. These are a Democrat’s least favorite word, facts.
