Indiana State Road 75 Now Bears Name of Carroll County Deputy Who Gave His Life

A stretch of State Road 75 in Carroll County will now forever carry the name of a local hero. On Friday, Aug. 8, a section of the highway between County Road 700 South and County Road 800 South was officially renamed “Deputy Sheriff Noah C. Rainey Memorial Road” in honor of the fallen Carroll County deputy who gave his life in the line of duty.

Deputy Noah C. Rainey was killed while serving his community on Jan. 29, 2022, a day that left a lasting mark on the county and those who knew him. State Sen. Ron Alting, who represents Senate District 22, led the effort to recognize Rainey’s service and sacrifice by sponsoring House Concurrent Resolution 5. The resolution urged the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) to rename the portion of the highway to ensure Rainey’s name and legacy would be permanently remembered.

“Noah gave his life to protect our community, and for that I am forever grateful,” Alting said during the dedication. “This recognition will ensure Noah’s sacrifice will never be forgotten and remind us all to be thankful for those who work to protect others.”

The unveiling of the new signage was a solemn and emotional moment. Sen. Alting stood beside members of Rainey’s family, including his wife, Maria, and their two sons, as the sign marking the “Deputy Sheriff Noah C. Rainey Memorial Road” was revealed. Also present was Deputy Sheriff Steven Tkachuk, who joined in honoring his colleague and friend.

The memorial designation is more than a road sign — it is a visible, daily reminder for residents and travelers alike of the dedication and bravery of law enforcement officers who risk their lives to keep others safe.
