Clemency Controversy: Biden Administration Considers Sentence Reduction for IRS Tax Leaker

The Biden administration is formally reviewing a clemency request for Charles Edward Littlejohn, the convicted leaker behind the largest tax data breach in U.S. history. Littlejohn, who stole and disclosed tax records of then-President Trump and other wealthy Americans, is serving a five-year sentence after pleading guilty to one felony count. Advocacy groups argue his actions exposed tax inequities and provided a public service, while critics warn that leniency would undermine the rule of law. The decision, now “pending” in the Justice Department’s database, adds to the administration’s record of controversial pardons and commutations.
