Louisville Rescue Officer Saves Tiny Kitten From Storm Drain

A tiny kitten in Louisville is safe and warm after being rescued from a storm drain by an animal services officer this week.

According to Louisville Metro Animal Services, Officer Embry responded Tuesday to a call about a kitten trapped inside a drain on Central Avenue.

The kitten was reportedly wet, cold, and hungry when rescuers pulled her to safety — but officials say she now appears to be doing well.

A Tiny Rescue With a Happy Ending

Photos shared by LMAS show the tiny kitten wrapped in towels after the rescue, drawing plenty of attention online from animal lovers celebrating the successful save.

Officials described the kitten as “purr-fectly fine” following the rescue and said she will now be placed in foster care while she continues to recover and grow stronger.

Community Asked to Help Name the Kitten

Now that the kitten is safe, LMAS is turning to the public for help choosing a name.

Animal lovers quickly flooded social media with suggestions inspired by the kitten’s dramatic rescue and rainy-day adventure.

Possible names suggested online include:

  • Stormy
  • Puddles
  • Ember
  • Lucky
  • Drizzle
  • Piper
  • Sunny

Animal Rescues Continue to Capture Hearts

Stories involving animal rescues often resonate strongly online, especially when they involve young animals overcoming difficult circumstances.

Shelters and rescue organizations across the country say spring and early summer are among their busiest times of year as kitten season leads to increased calls involving abandoned or stranded animals.

For this tiny Louisville kitten, however, a frightening day inside a storm drain ended with a warm towel, a foster home, and a second chance.
